Description

Thripskin Farm House is a farmhouse dating from around 1600, with alterations and extensions made in the 19th century. It features a timber frame and is roughcast, topped with a hipped plain-tiled roof. The building has a three-cell cross entry plan and stands two storeys high.

The front has recessed 19th-century six-panel doors; the left door, located in the cross entry position, is part glazed, while the right door leads into the parlour. There are cross casements on the ground floor to the left and centre, and on the first floor to the left, with part opening metal frames in the left bay. The right side of the ground floor has an architraved sash window, and the first floor has 4:4 pane architraved sashes in the centre and right. The ground floor features hoodboards and boxed eaves.

An axial ridge stack is positioned to the right of centre between the hall and parlour, with a panel in square foot and four conjoined hexagonal shafts. The right end of the house shows some exposed studding with an arched brace to the tie beam, a 2-light casement window, and part of an original ovolo mullioned window with small diamond mullions in between. The first floor has a 4:4 pane sash window.

On the left end, there is a 4-light ovolo mullioned window on the ground floor and a 2-light casement on the first floor. At the rear, there is a single-storey and attic lean-to addition with a catslide pantiled roof, which has a 20th-century extruded stack, a door, and glazing bar casements. The interior has not been inspected.
