Description
Numbers 30 and 32 High Street are two shops with storerooms above, formerly known as The Cock Inn. They date back to the 16th century and have undergone alterations over several periods. The buildings are timber-framed and rendered, featuring plaintiled roofs with modillioned eaves and axial chimneys made of gault brick. The upper floor has small-pane sash windows, while the shop fronts were updated in the 20th century with glazed entrance doors. A 16th-century carriage entrance is located between the two shops; the jettied upper floor originally extended to the left and possibly to the right. A rear wing was added to number 32 in the late 16th century, likely consisting of one long room on each of the two floors, and it has a good clasped purlin roof that reuses several soot-blackened medieval rafters. There were significant alterations and extensions made in the 19th century.
