Description

The Bell Hotel is a hotel that dates back to the early 19th century, with a core that originates from the 16th century. The building has two storeys and attics, featuring five windows. It is constructed of red brick with parapet gables, and the left section includes timber framing behind the brick façade. The roofs are covered with plain tiles and have crested ridge tiles, flat-headed dormers, and chimneys made of gault brick.

On the first floor, there are 19th-century sash windows with flat arches made of gauged brick and small-pane sashes. The ground floor has three splayed 19th-century bays with flat roofs, which include moulded cornices, wrought iron cresting, and small-pane sashes. The main entrance is located within a segmental arched 19th-century carriage entrance, featuring a 20th-century four-panelled door set in panelled infilling. There is an additional 20th-century entrance doorway to the left, which has a six-panelled door, pilasters, and a canopy.

To the left, the lounge forms the early 16th-century core of the building, consisting of two cells with exposed framing. The dining room is a late 16th-century rear extension that is two storeys high. In the early 19th century, two wings were added to the rear; one wing included stabling below and a jettied timber-framed club-room above, while the other wing is made of painted gault brick with flint at the rear. Both wings underwent alterations in the 20th century.
