Description
The Five Bells Public House is a public house located in St. Mary's Square, Newmarket. It dates from the mid-19th century but has an early 18th-century core. The building has two storeys and attics, featuring three windows. The exterior is rough cast rendered and includes a decorative band at the first floor, a dentil cornice, and a parapet. The roof is slated with a gable chimney made of red brick and a gault brick chimney at the rear. The mid-19th-century sash windows have broad architraves, although the sashes were replaced in the 20th century. The entrance features a mid-19th-century doorway with a four-panelled door, where the top pair is glazed, an oblong fanlight, a moulded architrave, and a cornice supported by console brackets. Additionally, there is an early 19th-century two-storey splayed bay at the rear, which has small-pane sash windows.
