Description
The Baptist Chapel, built in 1834 by William Steggles, is located on Garland Street in Bury St Edmunds. This building is constructed of white brick with red brick on the sides and rear, topped with a slate roof featuring a heavy moulded wooden eaves cornice and fascia.
The chapel stands two storeys tall on a corner site. The façade facing Garland Street has a five-window range, with sash windows that have 12 panes on the ground storey and 16 panes on the first storey, all adorned with radiating glazing-bars at the top. Between the first and ground storey windows, there is a panel with a moulded cornice and stub brackets that displays the incised lettering "18 BAPTIST CHAPEL 34." There are doors at each end of the front and another on the Pump Lane side; all doors have two leaves, each with six sunk moulded panels, and fanlights featuring radiating glazing-bars that match the windows. The south front has one blank window on the upper part. The interior has not been inspected.
