Description
The Regency House Hotel is an early 19th-century house located on Looms Lane in Bury St Edmunds. The building is constructed of white brick and has a stuccoed principal front. It features a fully hipped shallow-pitched slate roof with a wide eaves overhang. The exterior consists of two storeys and has a three-window range, with 2-light casements that include two horizontal glazing bars and slatted external shutters. The ground storey has two large-paned French windows. A raised stucco band separates the two storeys, and there is a veranda supported by cast-iron openwork brackets, topped with a curved lead-covered roof. The central entrance has a double door. To the right, there is a wing that is set back, featuring a cast-iron balcony with a lead roof on the first storey and an enclosed 20th-century veranda below.
Inside, the ground storey was originally divided into two rooms with a central entrance corridor, but it has now been converted into one large area. The room on the left retains an original plaster modillion cornice, while the room on the right has plaster dentils. Both sides feature original marble fireplace surrounds. At the rear of the building, there is a staircase with bracketed treads, a wreathed handrail, and stick balusters.
