Description
The obelisk, built around 1860, is located about 750 meters west of Helmingham Hall. It stands approximately 20 meters tall on a mound that is about 7 meters high. Constructed of red brick, the obelisk features a square plinth that is about 2.5 meters high, with a square indentation on each face. The needle-shaped obelisk tapers to a width of 0.5 meters at the top. This structure is a prominent landscape feature in the center of Helmingham Park. The mound itself was part of an 18th-century wilderness garden, and bricks from a demolished summerhouse built around 1760, along with a brick wall, were reused in the construction of the obelisk. The site is included as Grade I in the Historic Buildings and Monuments Commission Register of Historic Parks and Gardens.
