Description
Paris Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the mid to late 16th century, with an earlier core. It has two storeys and a three-cell plan, constructed with a timber frame and plastered exterior. The roof is pantiled and features an axial chimney made of red brick. The windows are small-pane casements from the mid-20th century, and there is a gabled pantiled entrance porch with a half-glazed door added in the 20th century.
Inside, the farmhouse reveals good quality mid-16th century framing that is exposed. The early 16th century, or possibly 15th century, open hall has been adapted, and the parlour cell has been rebuilt. The parlour cell showcases arch windbraced close studding. The first-floor structure in both the hall and parlour features intricate bar chamfer stops and sunk triangles at the soffit of the joists. A service room contains square unchamfered joists. The hall includes a pair of storey posts with archbraces from the central truss of the open hall. Originally, this cell was two storeys high, but the walls were raised in the 19th century to create a uniform two-storey roofline.
