Description
This barn, located 20 meters north-west of West End Farmhouse, dates from the late 16th century and has extensions from the early 17th century and 19th century. The original structure consists of five bays, which were extended by four bays to the north in the 17th century. In the mid-19th century, the barn was doubled in size with the addition of a parallel range to the north that features two gabled porches. The barn is timber-framed and weatherboarded, with a corrugated iron roof that was once thatched. There are boarded barn doors from the 19th and 20th centuries at bays three and six from the west. The barn showcases good close-studding from the 16th and 17th centuries, complete with middle rails. The 16th-century roof includes wind-braced clasped purlins, while the 17th-century roof features two tiers of butt-purlins. Bays seven, eight, and nine originally had an upper floor in the 17th century and were likely designed for stabling.
