Description

Page's Green House is a former farmhouse dating from the 15th century, with an early 17th-century parlour cross-wing to the left. The building is timber framed, with a roughcast-rendered facade and plastered sections. The right gable end is tarred and features old shaped brackets at the wallplate ends. It has a thatched roof and consists of three cells, with two storeys and an attic. The windows are mainly from the 18th century and have square-leaded panes, while the attic window in the cross-wing has diamond-leaded glass. There is a boarded door leading into a cross-entry. The stack, located at the junction of the two ranges, has a plain red brick shaft. At the rear, there are one-storey plastered and pantiled lean-to additions.

Inside, the truss over the former open hall features a massive cambered tie beam and arched braces that meet at the center. The crown-post has been removed, and the roof has been reconstructed with side purlins; the sooted rafters are said to be reused. Some 15th-century studding is exposed on the upper floor. The service partition includes paired doorways, with the four-centre arches largely reconstructed in the mid-20th century. A stack has been inserted in the upper bay of the hall. The parlour has a ceiling with chamfered joists, all components featuring lamb's tongue stops. The frame on both floors is concealed, and the roof is a clasped purlin type.
