Description
The Forge is a former farmhouse dating from the late 17th century. It is constructed with a timber frame and plastered exterior, while the left gable end is roughcast-rendered. The roof is covered in corrugated iron, which was placed over the original thatch in the early 1940s. The building consists of three cells and has two storeys. There are two windows: early 20th century 5-light casements on the ground floor and older 2-light casements above. To the left, there is a doorway featuring a 20th century plank door with a gabled hood. Inside, the frame is divided into four bays, with some plain, widely spaced studding on the first floor supported by straight braces. Several original upper doors remain. All ground floor rooms have axial ceiling beams, with those in the hall and parlour displaying lamb's tongue or ogee stop-chamfers. The joists are plastered over, and the roof timbers are concealed. At the rear, there are old pantiled lean-tos.
