Description
Greenway Cottage is a former farmhouse dating from the late 16th century. It is constructed with a timber frame and rendered exterior, topped with a pantiled roof. The building has a three-cell, cross-entry layout and stands at one and a half storeys, with a small attic at one end. The cottage features mid-20th century standard casement windows that lack glazing bars, along with one raking dormer. At the rear, there are two original diamond-mullioned windows that have been opened out. Mid-20th century entrances are located at each gable end, each enclosed by small porches. Inside, much of the five-bay frame is exposed, showcasing widely spaced studs and reverse-curved braces, along with blocked cross-entry and service doorways. The ceiling of the hall and parlour has plain joists set flat, and there are back-to-back fireplaces on the ground floor, with the one in the hall having been rebuilt in the mid-20th century. The roof features clasped purlins of irregular scantling, with wind bracing at each end.
