Description
Hill Cottage is a former farmhouse dating from the early 17th century, with a rear lean-to added around 1700. The building is timber framed and plastered, topped with a roof made of concrete plain tiles. It is designed in a two-cell, lobby entry style and has two storeys plus an attic. The exterior features two mid-20th century small-paned casement windows and a mid-20th century gabled porch with a battened plank door. There is an internal stack with a small red brick shaft.
Inside, the cottage has plain studding with arched braces at the corners and exposed joists on the ground floor. A 20th-century staircase leads to the upper floor in the rear addition, while an oak newel stair to the attic is located next to the stack. The roof structure includes an upper row of clasped purlins and a lower row of stepped butt purlins, with two-way wind bracing that is slightly curved.
