Description

May Cottage is a former farmhouse dating from the early 17th century, with a 20th-century gabled addition set forward to the left. The building was renovated in 1978 and features a timber frame with smooth render and a roof made of interlocking concrete pantiles. It has a two-cell form and stands two storeys tall. The mid-20th-century windows are standard small-paned casements, while there are two original first-floor diamond-mullioned windows located in the right gable end and at the rear, with another visible inside. The entrance door is situated in the side wall of the 20th-century addition. There is an internal stack with a rendered shaft and a small rear lean-to, likely from the 19th century.

Inside, the frame consists of three unequal bays, much of which is exposed. The structure features cranked corner braces, and the front upper window to the left has a deeper sill and likely projects. The ceiling of the left cell has heavy square joists, while the joists in the larger right cell are concealed. The newel stair is mostly original, and the roof contains one row of clasped purlins and deep collars, with no wind-bracing apparent.
