Description

Woodcroft Hall is a manor farmhouse dating from the 16th century, featuring a hall range with an early 17th-century two-cell cross-wing that projects forward to the left. The building is timber framed and plastered, with some remnants of old plaster panels and first-floor plasterwork designed to mimic ashlar. The ground floor of the wing is partially covered in colourwashed brick. It has a plaintiled roof and stands two storeys high, with a former attic in the wing. The hall range jetties at the front and includes 18th to 19th-century three-light mullion and transom casement windows that lack glazing bars.

The hall range has a lobby entrance at the junction with the cross-wing, featuring a 19th-century five-panel door (with the upper panel glazed) and an open corner porch supported by chamfered timber posts. There is an internal stack with an oblong shaft, where the lower part is original and the upper part is a 19th-century rebuild. Additional 19th-century stacks are located against the outside of the right gable end and within the cross-wing. To the right, a one-storey lean-to connects the house with a previously detached service range. At the rear, there is a five-panel door and a 19th-century open gabled porch on chamfered timber posts.

The interior has been significantly altered, particularly due to the subdivision of original rooms, and very little of the frame or floor structure is visible. The hall ceiling originally featured a fully-moulded axial bridging beam, although the moulding has been removed for most of its length. In the parlour, there is a brick fireplace with a three-centred arch. The roof has not been examined.
