Description

Two dwellings, originally one building, located on The Street in Brome. The property dates to the early 17th century and was formerly The Buck public house. It is timber-framed and plastered, with a thatched front roof that has a deep overhang at the eaves, and a pantiled rear roof slope. The building is two storeys high with an attic. The windows are a mixture of casements, with scattered placement. No.1 was modernized in the mid-20th century; most windows have been replaced, although one original first-floor window retains ovolo mullions. A mid-20th century door has been installed. An external stack is found against the rear wall, with the upper part having been rebuilt. No.2 retains old plasterwork, 18th and 19th century windows, and a boarded door. A small gable stack is present. Inside No.1, some plain studding and an ovolo floorbeam remain, but the original layout has been altered. The interior of No.2 has not been inspected.
