Description
Rose Cottage is a cottage dating from the late 15th century or early 16th century. It is timber framed and plastered, topped with a pantiled roof, and has one and a half storeys. The cottage features various casement windows and a mid-20th century boarded and battened door. Inside, there is an internal stack with two truncated octagonal shafts that were rebuilt in the mid-20th century. The structure is a small two-cell open hall house, with the hall consisting of two bays, the lower bay being quite narrow. Much of the original frame remains intact, along with the original joists at the service end. The tie beam of the open truss supports queen-posts, with each post's head supported by a brace extending from about the centre of the tie beam; however, half of this truss has been lost, as well as the upper parts of the original rafters. A stack was inserted into the upper hall bay, and the current floor was added in the late 17th century or early 18th century.
