Description

The Old Post Office is a house incorporating elements from the medieval period and the early 16th century, significantly altered and extended in the early 17th and 18th centuries to create a two-cell house with a lobby entrance. The house is timber-framed and has a roughcast-rendered exterior with a pantiled roof. It has two storeys and an attic. It features 19th-century three-light casement windows, a single-light window above the doorway, a mid-20th century six-panel door, and a flat hood over the door. An internal stack has a 17th-century shaft. The original section, on the left-hand side, retains medieval features, including exposed studding and heavy arched corner braces on the first floor. In the 18th century, the walls of this section were raised by approximately 0.5 metres to match the height of the 17th-century section on the right-hand side. A newel staircase leads to the first floor, and a late 18th-century corner cupboard with an arched head is also present.
