Description
Tye Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the late 17th century, with a possible core from the 16th century. It features a three-cell lobby-entrance plan and has two storeys plus attics. The building is timber-framed and rough-cast, topped with a plaintiled roof that includes a central 17th-century chimney made of red brick and a 19th-century chimney at the gable end. The front has 20th-century casement windows, while the rear showcases various 18th and early 19th-century casement windows. The entrance features a 19th-century panelled door, with the upper panel glazed and bordered by panes. There is a one-storey open porch made of brick and plaintiles. Architecturally, the house reflects late 17th-century design with straight primary-bracing in the walls, slender first-floor joists, and a butt-purlin roof with principal rafters. However, many key elements are believed to be from a 16th-century structure, indicating that the house underwent significant rebuilding in the 17th century. Inside, there is a large 17th-century open fireplace in the hall. At the rear, there is a one-storey service wing that dates from the 17th or 18th century.
