Description

Loftetofts Farmhouse is a timber-framed farmhouse dating back to about 1600, with alterations made in the 19th century and mid-20th century. The house is two storeys high with attics. The original timber frame is plastered, with much of the ground floor walls rebuilt in red brick during the mid-19th century, and the right-hand gable in the mid-20th century. The roof is covered in plain tiles and has gable dormers added in the 19th century. A rear chimney of red brick dates from the 17th century; another was added in the mid-20th century. Mid-19th century sash windows with sidelights are found on the ground floor, with casements above. There’s a glazed entrance door, also dating from the mid-20th century. The main range consists of two rooms, and there are a pair of short, original rear wings with ovolo-moulded fascias at the gable foot. The ground floor rooms contain ovolo-moulded main beams. The upper rooms have good plaster cornices from the early 17th century, featuring fleurs-de-lys and other emblems in the ceilings. A two-storey wing was added to the left side of the building in 1970.
