Description
The cartlodge, located 50 meters south of Burt's Farmhouse, dates from the late 18th century or early 19th century, with a core that is from the 17th century. It features a granary above and has two drawthrough lanes, each two bays deep. To the right, there is an integral stable or store that is one bay wide and two bays deep. The structure is timber-framed, primarily covered with weatherboarding, and partly plastered on the right side. It has a corrugated iron roof that was once thatched.
The front opening includes short curved archbraces at each post-head, while the rear wall was similar but has been infilled with weatherboarded timber-framing. A central bridging beam with archbracing supports the granary floor. The side walls exhibit primary-braced oak studding that appears to be from the 18th century, although the main framing members reflect a 17th-century character. This cartlodge can be compared to another cartlodge located 40 meters southwest of Whitefield House.
