Description

Rookery Farmhouse is a former farmhouse, likely dating from the early 17th century, with substantial remodelling in 1868. It originally had a three-room cross-entry plan, with a parlour incorporated into a cross-wing. In 1868, the parlour wing was renovated and became the main facade, facing west. The house is timber-framed and now largely encased in gault brick to the front, with plaintiled roofs. A well-crafted early 17th-century red-brick chimney sits at the junction of the two main sections of the house, featuring a sawtooth design and a moulded base. Two other chimneys, matching this style, were added in the 19th century. The front of the house has three windows, which are casements with prominent mullions and transoms. An entrance porch of gault brick, two storeys high with an attic, features a multi-panelled door. Above the attic window is a stone lintel carved with the inscription "F.N. 1868".
