Description
This barn, located 450 meters northeast of Wilby Hall, dates back to the 16th century. It is constructed with a timber frame and weatherboarding, topped with a pantiled roof and consists of four bays. The frame features a middle rail and reversed corner braces, with about 70% of the studding still intact. The two southern bays were originally floored over, and there are three intact diamond-mullioned windows at the upper level, along with evidence of additional windows. The barn boasts a well-preserved queen-post roof that includes an original upper row of collars, which are not connected to the main trusses, and clasped purlins. The arched braces to the tie beams have been replaced with bolted-on knees. Although the barn is now isolated, it is likely that it was once part of a farmstead.
