Description
Poplar Farmhouse is a farmhouse with origins dating back to the 16th century, which was altered and extended in the 17th century. It features a long main range built in more than one phase, with a later wing that is set forward to the right. The building is timber framed and roughcast-rendered, topped with a pantiled roof that has glazed black tiles on the front slopes. It has two storeys and an attic. The main range includes three windows: 18th to 19th century casements on the first floor, two small-paned sashes, and one 20th century casement on the ground floor. There is a lobby entrance with a 19th century half-glazed door, along with an architrave, frieze, and cornice. Inside, there is an internal stack and a gable stack to the right. The interior has been Victorianized, with the main components of the frame only visible at the first floor level. The layout of the ground floor has been altered, and the 17th century roofs feature clasped and stepped butt purlins, which have been largely renewed. There is also a newel staircase.
