Description
Sancroft Cottage is a farmhouse dating from the early 17th century. It is timber framed and has a roughcast render finish, with a roof covered in modern concrete pantiles. The building has two storeys and an attic, featuring a two-cell layout. There are various small 19th and 20th century casement windows. To the right of the cottage, there is a gabled porch with a boarded door. The central axial stack has a shaft that was rebuilt in the mid-20th century. The cottage displays some good framing with reversed corner bracing. The first-floor structure has joists set on edge, supported on ledges that are nailed to the frame, while the attic floor joists are set flat. The roof includes clasped and butt purlins along with slightly cranked windbraces. Inside, there is a newel staircase and above the first-floor fireplace, a small late 17th century plaster panel depicts a vase of fruit and flowers with a bird in the center.
