Description

The Hinderclay War Memorial is a First World War memorial built in 1920, with a later addition for the Second World War. It is made from Portland stone and features a small Celtic cross atop a tall, square-sectioned plinth, which stands on a three-stepped base.

The main inscription is located on the north face of the memorial and is carved in incised lettering. It reads: (on the plinth) "IN LOVING MEMORY OF THE MEN OF THIS PARISH OF HINDERCLAY (NAMES)"; (on the upper step of the base) "WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES FOR THEIR COUNTRY IN THE GREAT WAR 1914-1918"; and (on the middle step of the base) "1939-1945 (NAMES)".

The railings that once surrounded the war memorial have been removed.
