Description
Mizpah is a house dating from the early to mid 18th century, constructed of clay-lump and finished with plaster. It features a steeply hipped roof covered with pantiles and has a symmetrical two-cell lobby entry plan. The house is two storeys high, with a central entrance that is set within a 19th-century gabled porch. This porch includes a half-glazed door and bargeboards, along with large octagonal and square traceried windows on the sides. The windows are two-light glazing bar casements, and there is a central cross axial ridge stack. Smaller casements are found in the returns and at the rear of the house. There is also a 20th-century outshut at the rear left with its own entrance.
Inside, the house features ogee stop-chamfered binding beams. Mizpah is noted for being an early and unaltered example of a symmetrical vernacular house.
