Description
The barn at Park Farm, located 70 meters north-west of Mendlesham Manor, dates from the 17th century. It is constructed with a timber frame and is weatherboarded, with a roof covered in corrugated iron. The barn features a central cart entry with boarded doors on the north side, and a later gabled porch on the south side that has a glazed black pantiled roof. Large steel doors have been added to the east gable end.
Inside, the barn retains largely intact full-height studding and curved braces on the exterior. The wallplates are cut out in the center bay, and the tie beam braces have been replaced with knee braces. The roof includes one row of side purlins that are morticed into the principal rafters, except in the easternmost bay where they are clasped against diminished principals. Most of the curved wind braces are missing, and additional straight wind bracing has been added later. The roof has been altered in the center bay.
