Description
Treetops is a house that dates from the late 16th century, mid 17th century, and late 18th century. It has one storey and attics, with a three-cell plan. The building is timber-framed and plastered, topped with a thatched roof featuring two gabled casement dormers. There is an axial chimney, with its shaft rebuilt in 18th or 19th century red brick, and a 19th century gable chimney on the left side. The windows are small-pane casements from the 20th century, and the entrance door is a boarded and battened design from the same period. Inside, the central cell reveals mid or late 16th century framing, with unchamfered floor joists and a lintelled open fireplace, where the lintel has early 17th century carved decoration added from another source. The left cell may also date to the 16th century but features 18th century floor joists and a rebuilt clasped purlin roof. The service cell on the right, from the mid 17th century, has primary-braced studding, on-edge floor joists, and evidence of a diamond mullioned window.
