Description
St. Margaret's Priory is a house with a core dating back to the 15th century, featuring alterations from several periods. The building consists of three main sections: to the right is a 15th-century crosswing, in the center is a two-window range, and to the left is a small, lower service range. It is two storeys high and constructed of timber framing with plaster. The crosswing has a jettied first floor, showcasing exposed joist-ends and close-studding, supported by a pair of knees beneath the jetty. The roof is covered with plain tiles, and there are two red brick chimneys—one in the hall range and another at the rear of the crosswing. The windows are mainly early 20th-century three-light casements, some of which have leaded glazing; two of the first-storey windows may date from the 18th century. The entrance door is boarded and from the 20th century. The main ranges of the building are of 17th-century or earlier origin. The interior has not been examined.
