Description
Hollybush Farmhouse is a former farmhouse dating from the early 17th century. It is two storeys high with attics and has a complex plan that includes a hall range to the right, a cross-wing at the centre, and a one-storey service range with attics added in the 18th century to the left. The building is timber-framed and plastered, featuring 20th-century herringbone pargetting in panels. The cross-wing has an oversailing tie beam at the gable, with exposed studding above. The roofs are covered with plain tiles.
To the right, there is an internal end chimney made of 17th or 18th-century red brick, and a large 18th-century axial chimney in the service range, which has an adjacent 19th-century casement dormer. The windows are mainly 20th-century mullioned, some with leaded glazing, while others are restored 17th-century windows. The entrance is located at the rear. The framing from the 17th century is rather plain, featuring primary-braced studding and on-edge floor joists, along with a butt purlin roof. Inside the cross-wing, there is a wide lintelled open fireplace. The unusual layout of the 17th-century house may indicate early alterations or enlargements.
