Description
White House is a farmhouse built around 1840 to 1860, featuring an earlier core that may date back to the 17th century. The building is constructed of gault brick, which partially encases a timber-framed core, and has concrete tiled roofs. It has mid-19th century axial chimneys made of gault brick, each with four square diagonally-set attached shafts. The layout is H-shaped, consisting of a two-window hall range with slightly set-forward cross-wings, and it stands two storeys tall. The mid-19th century windows have flat arches made of finely gauged brick and small-pane sashes. The central entrance porch, also from the 19th century, is gabled and made of gault brick, featuring cusped and pierced bargeboards, and a door with two vertical panels and panelled reveals. To the right, there is an earlier 19th century or possibly late 18th century rear service wing made of flint rubble up to the first floor level, with red brick above and casements that have segmental heads. The interior has not been examined but the building is included for its group value.
