Description
The Thatches is a house dating from around 1550, with mid-20th century alterations. It has a three-cell plan that originally included a cross-entry. The building is one storey high with attics and is constructed from timber framing and plaster. The roof is covered with concrete tiles, which replaced the original thatch, and it features half-hipped ends. There is an axial chimney made of gault brick, along with two end chimneys from the 19th or 20th century. The house has large eyebrow casement dormers added in the 20th century and small-pane casements. The entrance door is boarded with a glazed panel and is sheltered by a hipped porch supported by oak posts, also covered with concrete tiles. Inside, the heavy first floors are exposed, showcasing unchamfered joists and binding beams with broad chamfers. The half-hipped end walls rest on pairs of well-formed base crucks.
