Description

Leffey Hall Manor is a farmhouse, built around 1550, and later subdivided into two dwellings. It is located on Brettenham Road, Buxhall. Originally known as Leffey Hall, the building has a three-cell cross-passage entrance plan. The structure is timber-framed and plastered, with a pantiled roof that was formerly thatched. A central 17th-century chimney exists, with a rebuilt shaft made of 19th-century gault brick; a second 19th-century chimney is situated to the left. Three mid-19th-century dormers are present, featuring leaded segmental heads and sash windows. The windows themselves are mostly small-pane sashes dating to the 19th and 20th centuries, and the entrances feature mid-19th-century six-panelled doors positioned at the cross-entry. Internally, heavy, unmoulded timber framing is exposed, with unchamfered floor joists. At the right-hand end of the building, a pair of base crucks with tension-bracing are visible, along with a blocked mullioned window within the gable. The base crucks originally supported a half-hip roof. The hall contains a lintelled open fireplace.
