Description
Green Farmhouse is a house dating from the early 17th century, featuring a three-cell cross-entry plan. It has one storey and attics, constructed with timber framing and plaster, topped with a thatched roof that includes three 20th-century eyebrow casement dormers. An axial chimney made of red brick with a sawtooth shaft dates back to the early 17th century. The house has 20th-century casements and a boarded and battened entrance door. The framing is quite complete and typical, showcasing arch stud-braced studwork and a clasped purlin roof. Inside, there is a complete ovolo-mullioned window in the parlour. The floor joists are laid flat and chamfered, and internal trusses do not have tie-beams; instead, braces rise from the first-floor binding beam to the post-heads in the parlour-chamber. There are back-to-back open fireplaces, with the one in the hall featuring a cambered lintel. The service cell to the left has been rebuilt in the 18th or early 19th century with primary-braced studding.
