Description
Malting Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the late 16th century, built in two phases, with a rear wing likely added in the 18th century. The building is timber framed and roughcast-rendered, topped with a pantiled roof. It has a three-cell, lobby entry layout and stands two storeys high with an attic. The facade features four windows, which are 20th-century mullion and transom casements without glazing bars, and a boarded door. Inside, the farmhouse has been modernised but retains exposed framing, with closely spaced studding in the front wall of the hall. There are axial bridging beams in the hall and parlour, with the joists concealed by plaster. A cambered open tie beam connects the hall and service cells. An oak newel stair leads from the upper floor to the attic. The roof over the parlour has a queen-post structure, though one queen-post and some braces are missing. The roof over the hall features clasped purlins, and the upper part of the stack is made of unfired brick, which is an unusual characteristic.
