Description

Linden House is a house located on Lambseth Street in Eye, dating from around 1710 to 1720. It is constructed of red brick with burnt brick dressings and features a partly rendered and whitewashed timber frame at the rear. The building has a plaintile roof and a facade that is two storeys high with a seven-window range.

The central entrance has an eight-panelled and fielded door, framed by a doorcase with panelled reveals and fluted pilasters that rise to a metope frieze beneath a segmental pediment. Above the door is an arched six-over-six unhorned sash window, surrounded by brick pilasters with capitals and bases. The remaining windows are six-over-six unhorned sashes set within flush frames and beneath gauged skewback arches. There is a platband at the first floor, a moulded brick eaves cornice, and a panelled parapet. The roof features two parallel hipped sections with two stacks in the valley.

On the south side, there is a 19th-century single-storey hipped extension. The west half of the first floor has two blind windows, while the east half has a mix of 19th-century sashes and casements. Each roof has one flat-topped dormer. At the rear, there is a steeply-pitched 20th-century two-storey outshut to the left and a two-storey 19th-century outshut to the right. Between these, there is an arched early 18th-century staircase window with six-over-six glazing bars.

Inside, the staircase features two turned balusters per tread and a moulded handrail.
