Description
The Town Clerk's Cottage is a house that was formerly occupied by the town clerk, dating from the mid-18th century. It features a plastered and whitewashed timber frame set on a tarred brick plinth, topped with a slate roof that includes some black-glazed pantiles. The building is two storeys high, with the gable end facing the street. The entrance has a six-panelled and fielded door within a doorcase that is flanked by fluted pilasters. To the right of the door, there is a three-light late 20th-century casement window, and above it on the first floor, there is a similar two-light casement. The roof is hipped and has a ridge stack. On the south side, there are two two-light casements and one 18th-century sliding casement on each floor, all featuring glazing bars. The interior has not been inspected. The cottage is part of a notable group of buildings on Lambseth Street and is included for its group value.
