Description
Mallow House is a house dating from the 17th century, which was altered and refronted around 1820 with colourwashed brick. It features a slate roof and is two storeys high with a three-window range. The central entrance has a six-panelled door, with the upper two panels being glazed. The doorcase is adorned with reeded segmental pilasters that support a frieze with corner paterae and a hood. There are unhorned sash windows, with one 8/8 sash on either side of the door and three similar sashes on the first floor, the centre one being a 6/6 sash. The windows have rendered gauged skewback arches and keyblocks above them. The house has a gabled roof with an internal gable-end stack on the south side and two stacks on the rear roof slope.
Inside, little of the timber frame is visible. The interior features six-panelled doors and a stick-baluster staircase with a ramped handrail. The kitchen includes a fireplace from around 1800. The roof structure consists of rafters and purlins dating from around 1820. The former exterior wall of the north gable shows remains of pargeting that can be seen from the roof of the adjacent house.
