Description

Crown Hill Cottage is a house that dates back to around 1600 and was formerly part of a coaching inn. It has been altered in the 20th century. The building features a timber frame that is plastered, topped with a steeply pitched roof made of pantiles, some of which are black glazed. The cottage has two bays and an end stack, standing two storeys tall with a cellar. There are steps leading up to the entrance on the left side, with a ground floor that has a 4-light window and a first floor with two 2-light windows that have C20 lattice leaded glass.

An originally external axial ridge stack on the right side is now located behind a 19th-century extension of the adjacent Crown Hill House, which is not listed. The left end of the cottage shows exposed plates and purlins, along with a shaped bracket at the rear. There is also a lean-to outshut at the back. Inside, you can find a chamfered cross axial binding beam, stop-chamfered moulded storey posts, and traces of 3-light diamond mullioned windows, along with a butt purlin roof. The large cellar includes a barrel vaulted chamber at the rear. The originally external left end wall is now visible in Church View Cottage and features panelled pargetting. Crown Hill Cottage was formerly part of the Crown Public House.
