Description

Numbers 1 and 2 Hilltop, which includes Cook's Stores, is a house that has been converted into two dwellings with a shop. It was built in the early 19th century and underwent alterations in the 20th century. The structure is made of clay lump on a brick plinth, with slate cladding on the front secured by iron bolts and a rendered finish. The roof is slate.

The building has three sections and is two storeys high. On the ground floor, the entrance is located to the left of the centre and features steps leading up to a recessed area with a raised fielded six-panel door, a lattice traceried fanlight, and a reeded architrave with lozenges in the frieze and a cornice. Flanking this entrance are 19th-century metal frame oriel windows arranged in a 1:3:1 light configuration. To the right is the shop entrance, which has a recessed half-glazed door with a reeded architrave similar to the entrance on the left, and a large shop window consisting of nine panes arranged in a five-pane central section that is slightly bowed, topped with a reeded architrave and cornice.

On the first floor, there are three 20th-century three-light casements, and a triglyph frieze is present at the eaves. The building features an internal stack at the left end and a ridge stack to the right of centre. There is also an added external stack at the right end, which is part of an original brick and pantiled lean-to that includes part of the shopfront and a door. At the rear, there is a catslide roof over a continuous lean-to, which contains a one-storey and attic wing with two-light casements, a loft door, and a pantiled roof. The interior includes iron joists.
