Description
This house, located 15 meters west of the Malthouse and occupied by Mr. Rookyard, dates from the 17th century. It features a timber frame with roughcast rendering and a pantiled roof. The building is designed in a two-cell, lobby entry style and has two storeys plus an attic. There are two windows with two-light small-paned casements and a 20th-century semi-glazed door. A central stack with a red brick shaft is present, along with a rear lean-to addition that has a steeply-pitched roof.
Inside, the house has seen little alteration since the 19th century. Some plain studding is exposed, and the ground floor features ogee stop-chamfered ceiling beams, with irregular joists visible in the right-hand room. The upper ceiling has square joists, and there is a newel stair. Several notable 17th-century doors are present, including one leading to the attic stair. The roof was likely renewed in the 19th century.
