Description
The Cedars is a house dating from the late 17th century, constructed with a timber frame and rendered exterior, featuring a steeply pitched roof that was originally thatched. It has two grey brick ridge stacks added in the 19th century. The house has a lobby entry and a three-bay plan, consisting of one storey and an attic, with a later outshut at the rear. There are three mid-20th century flat roof dormers with replacement windows, as well as three early 19th century windows at the ground floor that have casements with arched top panes in square heads. The lobby entry doorway includes a fanlight with intersecting pointed arches, a panelled door, and a trellis work porch. A shop addition is located at the right-hand end of the building. Inside, some of the early to mid-17th century frame is visible, featuring substantial scantling and jowled heads on the posts. There is a red brick inglenook hearth with an ogee stop chamfer on the bressumer, and the main beam has ovolo moulding.
