Description

This is a house, formerly The Anchor public house, dating back to the 16th century. It is located on the south-east side of Melbourn High Street. The building has a timber frame, now rendered with roughcast, and a tiled roof with later end stacks. An extension to the rear creates an L-shaped plan. The building is two storeys high, featuring three late 20th-century windows on the first floor, and two windows flanking the entrance on the ground floor. Inside the front range, original floor joists of heavy timber remain. Around 1840, the property was owned by Thomas Dickason Titchmarsh and occupied by Mynott Titchmarsh, a farmer. It operated as The Anchor public house in the 1840s, after Mynott Titchmarsh moved to a farmstead following enclosure of fields.
