Description

The Old Post Office is a former farmhouse that has been converted into two dwellings. It dates back to the 16th century and underwent renovations in the mid-20th century. The building is timber framed and rendered, featuring a thatched roof that is hipped over the service end to the right. It has a three-cell form and consists of two storeys with an attic. There are four windows, which are mid-20th century two-light casements without glazing bars. The original entrance porch below the stack has been altered, with the door replaced by a window. There are matching mid-20th century doorways on the left and right, each with a plank door and a full-height window beside it. The stack has a rebuilt axial shaft.

Inside, the property has been considerably modernised, but some good quality studding remains in the hall and the chamber above, along with evidence of original windows. The hall features a chamfered-joist ceiling, with the main beam displaying broach stop-chamfers at one end. There is a mutilated moulded lintel over the hall fireplace. A service partition has been removed and replaced by a later studded cross-partition in the lower bay of the hall. The roof structure is a queen-post design. The building ceased to be used as a post office in 1884.
