Description
This building is a cartshed with an attached stable, located 50 meters north of Norton Hall. It dates from the 17th century, with a granary added in the 19th century. The stable on the left is likely also from the 17th and 19th centuries. The structure is timber-framed and weatherboarded, with a slated roof that was once thatched.
The cartshed consists of four bays and features a side entry. It has freestanding posts at the front, with well-formed archbraces reaching up to the wallplate, and jowled heads that support tie-beams, which were cut back or removed in the 19th century. The building has primary-braced studding and a clasped purlin roof. The granary floor is located just below the eaves level, with binding beams supported on bolted knees at intervals between the bays. The stable includes a pair of 19th-century boarded doors.
