Description
These are two cottages that were originally a farmhouse, located 220 meters east of Yew Tree Cottage. The north cottage dates back to the 15th century and has undergone later alterations. It is timber framed and plastered, topped with a thatched roof, and has one and a half storeys. The cottage features various old casement windows and a 19th-century four-panel door, with the upper panels being glazed. There is a gable stack on the north side. Inside, the lower part of one of the arched braces from the open truss is visible on the ground floor, along with evidence of the other brace. In the room to the south, there is a 17th-century bridging beam and a storey post with a shaped head.
The south cottage is a parlour addition, likely built around 1600. It is also timber framed and plastered, with a weatherboarded gable end facing south and a pantiled roof. This cottage has two storeys and an attic, featuring various old casement windows and a 20th-century door. There is a heavy gable stack where it joins the hall range, and it includes newel stairs with two flights. The upper floors of both cottages have not been inspected.
