Description
Rose Cottage and Southolme are two houses that were originally one, dating from the early 17th century. They are timber framed and plastered, with a roof covered in clay plain tiles. The buildings have a three-cell layout and are two storeys high. They feature late 19th century four-paned sash windows, with one gabled dormer present. Rose Cottage has a six-panel door, where the upper two panels are glazed, and an enclosed gabled porch with decorative bargeboards. Southolme has a semi-glazed four-panel door. There is an internal stack and a gable stack to the left, both with 19th century shafts, and a one-storey lean-to on the right gable end.
Inside, Rose Cottage includes a parlour cell and a hall chamber, with the upper rooms showing studding that is papered over. The joists in the parlour cell are concealed, while the hall chamber features oak joists set flat. There is a 19th century newel stair. The timbers in Southolme are said to be entirely concealed.
