Description
Church Farmhouse is a Grade II listed farmhouse built in two phases. The early 17th century parlour cross-wing is located on the left, while the possibly older hall range is on the right. The building is timber framed and plastered, with the cross-wing featuring some original panelled plasterwork. It has a thatched roof, with the hall range having one and a half storeys and the cross-wing having two storeys and an attic.
The front of the cross-wing has an overhanging gable, and the tie beam is intricately carved along its edge, displaying initials or a merchant's mark that is now difficult to discern. The soffit of the tie beam shows mortices for window mullions and small diamond glazing bars. There are various casement windows, mostly from the 20th century, along with an old square-leaded attic window in the wing and one eyebrow dormer.
The doorway in the gable end of the wing features a 19th century six-panel door, with the upper two panels glazed, and is sheltered by a thatched gabled open porch. Inside, there is an internal stack in the hall range with a 19th century axial shaft, and a massive external stack at the rear of the wing, likely from the 17th century. The interior has not been examined.
