Description

Ripley Cottage is a house dating to the first half of the 17th century. It is timber-framed, now with modern textured plasterwork on the exterior. The roof is clad in painted corrugated metal, concealing a layer of thatch. The house is two storeys high and originally comprised three rooms arranged in a lobby-entry plan. It has two windows, each with two lights and small panes of glass. The ground floor windows are detailed with bracketed drip moulds. A mid-20th century gabled porch with a boarded and battened door has been added. An internal stack with an oblong shaft, likely original, remains. A one-storey addition is situated on the left side. Inside, the hall’s floor joists are set flat, while the parlour’s floor joists are on-edge or square. Plain first floor studding is present, along with a newel stair.
